Siteul este declarat SCAM I was looking for another way to boost income through surfing that I could share in my blog. There are a lot of sites with ads to view, ads to click, but I wanted to find a real "surf" source for making money online. When I stumbled on SurfJunky, it looked good. I poked around, read the FAQs, then signed up and did a quick surf. I then went out to Google and did my usual searches. Much to my surprise, it has a reputation of being a scam site - yet has been online for 6 years or more! I found that amazing. How, with so much information online, are people investing time, hours after hours, and then not getting paid? Well, as I said, I was impressed with the look of the site. It doesn't have the appearance of a scam site.
Lesson #1: Appearances can be deceiving! A scam site may look professional, and well run. You can't always count on appearances. You know the saying - don't judge a book by its cover. You may find a real gem that appears plain and unimpressive. Likewise, you may find a site that is extremely well presented and yet have no real value.
Lesson #2: Do Your Research. Let the Internet work FOR you. You don't have to visit a library or make phone calls. A quick Google search will save you hours upon hours! Just add the word "scam" to whatever site or program you are interested in and search Google. If there was a problem, someone most likely has written about it and it will return in your search. As I said, this site has been running for 6 years plus. That tells me simply that people are too lazy, and too trusting. Searching Google only takes a few seconds! Always check a program by searching Google. Even if it is not an outright scam, you may be helped by the comments and feedback that Google returns. I have to say, I jumped in and joined first because this program looked so reputable. But, I only invested a few minutes in it before going out and searching Google. I did not expect to find anything. Lesson learned. Next time, I will search first.
Lesson #3: Check Sites that Report Scams. A great place to check is GPTBoycott.com, which lists known scam sites. Another good source, which they also recommend, is the BeenPaid Seal of Approval for paying programs. Goldage.net forum also has an extensive scam list. You can also search, or file a report, with RipoffReport.
While these lists and resources are not fail-proof, they are great resources to help you research any site that makes promises of payment. Note, even a paying site may not be personally suitable. For example, I tried a number of sites for surfing that were proven "payers", but then discontinued using them because of adult content that "bled" through. Surf sites seem to be a favorite pick for those pushing adult content.
So, SurfJunky, called the "mother of scam sites" can teach us a few things. Invest time up front so you don't lose hours upon hours of your valuable time, or even worse, your valuable resources because you failed to check reputable sources. BTW, I did not include links here on purpose for SurfJunky. Don't be lazy. Type in "SurfJunky scam" and search Google. You will find lots of hits!
